Video is taken down after they show this. You get a reasonable amount of time to respond to X's continued accusation.Ħa- You respond to the continued complaint, X now has to show YouTube that they have initiated legal action. Complaint is dismissed, held money is transferred to you.Ĥc- You don't respond, video gets taken down, held money is transferred to copyright holder.ĥ- (Following from 4a). Proceed to step 5.Ĥb- You respond to the complaint, X does not respond. Monetization on the video becomes held by YouTube, but the video is not taken down.Ĥa- You respond to the complaint, X now has to respond. Sure, that's what the system is, but that system is abusive and puts burden of proof on the accused, not the accuser, therefore it is constantly being clogged with frivolous claims which sure, you can fight, but the moment has passed and you've already experienced the loss.ģ- You get a reasonable amount of time to respond to that complaint with evidence that it's valid. So, they stay out of it, give both parties many chances to be reasonable, and eventually force the supposed copyright holder to file legal charges or fuck off. They aren't a court of law and shouldn't have to play that role for all of the videos on their channel. And it does make sense YouTube does it this way. YouTube's system is annoying but if you know you are in the right and keep escalating, it will work out. If they do not file a court case and show YouTube they have done so, the copyright claim is released, the video stay up, and all of the ad money which was being held by YouTube goes to me.
